Standard Service Management comms protocol?

Is there a communications protocol for Service Management tools to communicate with each other?

I have 2 tools in use in my organisation and want to me able to pass events and incident data from one to the other. I remember reading about a committee being set up to develop a standard protocol but can't find anything about it on the web now.

Was I dreaming?

API is a common interface between most tools

I'd advise you contact the software provider and ask them what their tool uses.
As Andy points out, API is common (Application Program Interface) but does require application programming knowledge.
There are some older technologies (eg SNMP) which respond to 'alerts'..

The simple answer to your question is NO, there is not a standard communication protocol for passing incidents and events between ITSM tools.

Some combinations of tools are fairly easy to hook together, and others are more difficult. You need to speak to the vendors of the specific tools you are using to ask them for advice.
